OCC to Host 33rd Annual Ceramic Holiday Sale

Dec. 4-5 Event Features Hundreds of Unique Items
The Orange Coast College Ceramics Department will hold its 33rd Annual Ceramic Holiday Sale Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4th and Dec. 5th in Arts Center 113. The sale will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The two-day sale will focus on functional as well as decorative pottery. Hundreds of items, created by more than 25 intermediate to advanced-level OCC ceramics students, will be available for sale. For information, phone (714) 432-5843.

OCC Repertory to Stage Annual Holiday Melodrama

Popular Christmas Show Will Run Dec. 4 to Dec. 13
Orange Coast College’s Repertory Theatre Company will stage its annual holiday show for kids – and parents and grandparents – this season.
Titled “An Old-Fashioned Christmas Melodrama and Ice Cream Social,” the holiday treat runs Fridays through Sundays, Dec. 4-6 and Dec. 11-13, in OCC’s Drama Lab Theatre. Curtain is set for 7:00 p.m. Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, and 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13.

OCC Students Launch 25th Annual Angel Tree Drive

Orange Coast College’s Angel Tree Project is 25 years old. Once again, students will collect Christmas gifts for needy youngsters and senior citizens through Dec. 11th.
Sponsored by OCC’s Associated Students and College Life Program, the Angel Tree Project places Christmas trees decorated with the gift tags at various locations on campus, including the OCC Administration Building, Library, Starbucks, Watson Hall, Student Center and Clark Computing Center.

'Art of Alex Grey' Opening Reception Saturday

“The Art of Alex Grey,” selections from the artist’s famous “Sacred Mirror” series, will fill the galleries of the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion from Nov. 14th through Dec. 18th. The showing features more than 300 self-portraits spanning over 40 years of the artist’s life.
The exhibit will open with a free reception for the public and students on Saturday, Nov. 14th, from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

OCC Athletes Score on Spring Honor Roll

51% is Best Academic Showing in Recent History
More than half of Orange Coast College’s student athletes achieved honor roll status in Spring 2009. Athletic Director Barbara Bond said it is the best record she can remember in recent years.
Of 316 athletes participating in 14 spring sports last year, 159–or 51%–earned a 3.0 GPA (grade point average) or higher while they completed at least 12 credits, all while training and competing in their sport.

OCC Symphony to Perform Baroque Concertos

Nov. 14th Concert Features Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’
The Orange Coast College Symphony, directed by Ricardo Soto, will present Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons: Spring and Winter” in a program of baroque concertos on Saturday, Nov. 14th, at 8:00 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. Guest violinist Sam Yoon of Irvine will perform the Vivaldi concerto and Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 4.” He will be joined by his son, Andy, 17, in Bach’s “Double Violin Concerto.” Tickets are $10.

‘Music of the Sea’ Inspires OCC Wind Ensemble

The Orange Coast College Wind Ensemble will perform musical compositions celebrating our watery world in a concert on Sunday, Nov. 8th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. Assistant music professor Dana Wheaton will direct a program entitled “Music of the Sea.” Advance tickets are on sale in the OCC Bursar’s Office for $5. Admission will be $7 at the door.
